Why You Will Miss Freshman Year

Freshman year of college is simultaneously the best and worse year of college. No matter how many struggles you face freshman year, I promise you will come to miss it as your time in school goes on, and here’s why.

1. Can’t use adjusting to college life as an excuse

Adjusting to college life can be challenging, but it also was such a great excuse. Compared to all other years of college, freshman really get their hands held. Classes are easy and the workload is definitely smaller. I suppose it is obvious that freshman get to use this adjustment to their favor, but it is something we all miss.

2. Not having to worry about a future job

It seems that the second you hit sophomore year there is increasing pressure to start doing all the things that will lead to a job after college. I mean that is why we are all here, but freshman year it felt like we were all still figuring out what we wanted to do, and boy have things changed. Now there is conferences on how to do a job interview to attend and you are expected to have perfected resumes. Yes it is the end goal and why you are even trying to get a degree, but it is so stressful!

3. Money

We all complain about being poor college students, but the true meaning of that is really learned after freshman year. Coming into the first year of college most of us had money from jobs in high school and from graduation presents. We felt poor then, but now that all of that is gone we know how it really feels. Budgeting becomes an even bigger struggle.

4. Being labeled as a freshman

Yes, being labeled as a freshman sucks. But once you are out of that freshman bubble you will never return. Never again will you be a freshman. The label pretty much means you are dirt to the other student (awful but true) however there are freshman perks, like the ones above, and others. Freshman events on campus, getting to move in early for orientation, freshman housing (could be a perk maybe). All those so called “freshman things” you will never get to do again.

5. Time

Freshman year goes by fast and unfortunately it only seems to escalate from there. College years, the last years we have before being thrown into the real adult world, really do fly by. I wish I had freshman year back just so that I could relive all the amazing and even the painful experiences.
