Five Finger Death Punch Live Show Review

After a long absence from the heavy metal genre; I can now successfully say that after the Five Finger Death Punch show at Mohegan Sun Arena this weekend all interest has been restored.

The Good:

From the moment I walked into the room the energy from the opener HELLYEAH blew me away. From HELLYEAH to VOLBEAT to 5FDP they kept this consistent energy that flew right into the crowd. The entire evening was filled with head banging, positive vibes, impressive sound. Props to the producers as this was some of the best mixed sound that I have heard in quite some time. Lighting was what I expected for this type of show. A lot of flashing, a sufficient amount of moving heads, didn’t blow me away, but didn’t disappoint.

On a separate side of things, 5FDP spent a solid amount of time saluting our men and women in arms and we all greatly appreciated it. They even brought up at least 50 military members on to the stage for Burn MF. Much better than the bands previous choice of bringing children up on stage for this song.

The actual quality of each band was on point. From Ivan Moody’s intense vocals to HELLYEAH’S lead vocalist owning the stage. Every act that performed at Sunday nights show had immense talent.

The Bad:

Where are the video screens! Even Pyro?!

Although a well designed set is much appreciated, I love my video screens, which this show lacked much of. You would think with a scale of production that this show has it would not leave out such a crucial piece in today’s modern space. I personally can think of some pretty cool applicable uses for video technology for this show. I can’t imagine what a professional would be able to conquer.

On top of having no video screens, the show had no pyrotechnics. I thought for sure there would be flames flying from the floating brass knuckles at either end of the stage. Ivan did mention something about being inside and not being allowed to have flames. If that is the case, shame on Mohegan Sun.

The Ugly:

Although this is my favorite topic, not to much ugly to talk about at this event. I am sure if some of my Katy Perry enthused readers were at this show they may have a different opinion. However, from a un-biased view, everything went well. A very good show.

The Band is in the midst of a US tour that will be finishing up later in the fall. You can check the dates here!
