College Expectations Versus Reality

We all go to college expecting so much of ourselves, our schools, as well as our peers. I am here to tell you to lower your expectations or you will be disappointed.

“I’m going to get a 4.0!”

9 out of 10 times this is FALSE. College is so much harder than high school and if you want a 4.0 then you are either not going to have a social life or not going to have sleep. You may pick two.

“I’m going to meet the man of my dreams!”

There are some of you lucky ducks out there that will meet your other half but in reality, the guys in college just want to party and hook up; think typical frat guy.  There are a handful of guys that are the nice guy types but more than likely they have already been snatched up.

“My roommate and I are going to become best friends!”

If you go to college and room with someone you are friends with already then that friendship is more than likely going to be ruined. Freshman year is hard with the random roommate assignments, but try to make the most of it. You do not need to be BFF’s with your roommate, you probably won’t be, but don’t become frenamies with them either because they are the person that can make your life a living hell.

“I’m going to be SO involved!”

Yeah, you may start off involved, but your involvement will dwindle as the year goes on when you realize you need to balance free time, grade, social life, a job, sleep, food, etc. Just pick 2 or 3 things and stick with it; do not spread yourself thin!

“I’m not going to gain the freshman 15!”

LOL. Beer = carbs. Pizza = carbs. Bread = carbs. Good luck.
