3 Things That Change The Summer After Freshman Year

You just finished your first year of college and you’ve realized that your friends from home still act the same; the only thing that’s different is their alcohol tolerance. That was your biggest worry when everyone left last summer for the first time, but now that you’re settled in; here are something things that will change this summer.

3. Summer Jobs Become Necessary – Unless you’re a trust-fund brat (in that case, I envy you) this summer is going to be spent working because you’re a typical poor college student who’s desperate for money. Don’t panic, you’ll still have time to do crazy things with your friends who you haven’t seen in forever. Think of it this way, going out when you have to work the next day is like going out on a Thursday night and having class Friday morning. The only difference is you can’t skip work whenever you’re not feelin’ it. Just keep in the back of your mind how happy you will be next year when you have extra money to spend on food and alcohol.

2. Attending High School Parties – No, just no. You’re in college now so the only way you should be seeing people who are still in high school is if they come to your college parties. I’m not saying you’re not allowed to be friend with people in high school because that would make me a hypocrite. Just please just do yourself a favor and don’t show up to that awkward high school gathering that involves about 20 people you forgot about all year. We all know it’s going to end at 12:30 a.m. and you’re either going to be the drunkest one there or extremely bored. Focus on hanging out with your friends, oh and the local bars. This summer you don’t have to worry about including everyone in the senior class, you can finally just hang out with who you want, when you want and not worry about, “If we invite her then we’re going to have to invite her, her, and him.”

1. Curfew – You’ve spent a whole year living your own life, answering to absolutely no one. You came and went as you pleased and it didn’t matter if you got back to your room at 1:30 a.m. or 4:30 a.m. You were considered an adult so you’re about to be facing a major reality check. You’re home now so the only thing you can do is play the, “I’m in college” card or pray that your parents forgot curfews were ever a thing. If you’re really lucky you have older siblings and your parents forget you exist sometimes so you can get away with coming home really late, or really early I guess. I mean the town you live in is probably about 100 times safer than where you go out in college so it shouldn’t be too hard to convince your parents. Best of luck.
